Jazz is the expression of strength, expression, isolations and lines but to faster forms of music as Broadway, Pop and Childrens songs for younger students but graduating to faster more diverse forms of dances as they get older. The purpose of this class is to expose students to both forms and introduce. As they progress to age 7, students should add a Ballet or Jazz technique to their class schedule to move toward a more advanced program.

MODERN DANCE

Modern dance is a more relaxed, free form of dance in which choreographers use emotions and moods to design their own steps, in contrast to ballets structured technical format.

POINTE-  This is a part of our advanced program- see below

Pointe is the form of ballet when students are technically and physically ready for shoes that have a very hard surface to provide for the student to dance on their toes.  Strict attention is given to the readiness of the student for this form of ballet.  Increased technique classes and Ballet classes are required to avoid back and ankle problems as well as to maintain correct presentation of steps.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIP HOP AND JAZZ?

Jazz and Hip Hop both have cultural influences. While Jazz emerged first in the 1920's.
Jazz class is normally upbeat in its style, using music that is both old school and new school with some modern choreography. It can encompass music that is Broadway, Pop and Songs of the past. The style of Jazz usually involves, Jumps, Leaps, lots of body lines, sharp movements and isolations
Hip Hop is a style that emerged after Jazz and has had influences of Jazz. Music usually has a heavy beat with spoken words or song that tells a story or it can be set to instrumental music. Hip Hop can involve breaking and tricks or it can just be choreographed with sharp movements of the upper body, legs, arm and head.
Both are well liked forms of art of young students.
We always suggest a jazz class for younger students because it develops basic technique that will make them a better dancer in many art forms.
